Rentals advertised on CraigsList - fact or fiction? Beware of the many scams!!

Another safety/scam alert
 - Please PLEASE remind your loved ones - when looking for housing on CraigsList, you never EVER ever EVER send/wire money to a party that "owns the house." I've been hearing the following "They said they owned the house & are missionaries, so we trusted them." "They said we could rent it for 3 years!" "They said we can't call them, only text <CLUE>" "They said your sign was there because you hadn't removed it yet." "They said I should just peek in the windows & see if I like it & they'd mail me the keys..." "They said the rent was so cheap because they really want someone like me to take good care of it for them long-term" (Many times, they are advertising the properties with either a yahoo or hotmail address, and are advertising well below market rate rent.)

In a nutshell, I have personally heard from 4 people in the past week who WIRED money to another country (to the tune of $500-$800 EACH) - to "reserve" a rental here - in Lancaster County...

Folks - if you haven't met a real, live person or professional, do NOT send $! EVERY single rental that is legit will have either a property owner - OR a property manager - that is physically showing & renting the property. Be careful out there - use common sense - and never EVER wire money to an unknown person....Feel free to share! Save some others the heartache of this scam!
